New Hampshire Security Guard Practice Exam Prep, Practice Test & Study Guide

In the case of a bomb threat, the first course of action a security guard should take is to evacuate and secure the area. This step is crucial for the safety of individuals present in the vicinity. By evacuating the area, the security guard removes people from potential danger, thereby reducing the risk of injury or loss of life should the threat turn out to be real.

Securing the area ensures that only authorized personnel can access it, thereby preventing any interference with emergency responders who might soon arrive to assess the situation. This also helps maintain a secure perimeter to avoid causing panic and confusion among the evacuees, allowing for an organized response to the threat.

While notifying emergency services is an essential task that follows shortly after ensuring evacuation, it is critical that the immediate area is cleared first to prioritize the safety of individuals. Similarly, searching for the bomb or waiting for instructions would be inappropriate as they could put the guard and others at greater risk.
